Endometrium in menopause
Endometrium is the inner lining of the uterus that thickens each menstrual cycle and sheds if no pregnancy. In menopausal women, endometrium becomes thinner without estrogen. Important: if you take estrogen alone (for women with intact uterus), endometrium can over-thicken and raise endometrial cancer risk. That's why hormone replacement therapy for women with intact uterus must include progesterone.
