What is MyMammo and how do I qualify?
MyMammo is a breast cancer screening program subsidised by the Ministry of Health Malaysia for Malaysian citizen women. Its goal is to detect early-stage breast cancer when treatment is more effective. Program info: (1) Eligible: Malaysian citizens, women 40+. Age exception (younger) if high-risk factors like family breast cancer history. (2) Frequency: every 2 years for women 50-74; more often if referred. (3) Cost: free or low-cost for those eligible (RM10-30 at some clinics). (4) Location: specific screening centres across Malaysia, including main Ministry of Health Malaysia Klinik Kesihatan and state specialist hospitals. Full list at mymammogram.gov.my. (5) Services include: 2D digital mammogram, clinical breast exam by doctor, follow-up action guidance if needed. How to register: (1) Register online at mymammogram.gov.my with MyKad. (2) Or visit your local Klinik Kesihatan to register in person, after checking the clinic's current registration process. (3) Choose screening location and date from available options. (4) On screening day: bring MyKad, no deodorant or lotion, wear two-piece for convenience. Screening results: (a) Normal (BI-RADS 1-2) - results sent within 2-4 weeks, routine 2-year follow-up. (b) Possibly abnormal (BI-RADS 3) - further exam recommended within 6 months. (c) Suspicious (BI-RADS 4-5) - emergency referral to oncology for biopsy and treatment. Different from private screening: MyMammo program much cheaper and accessible for women without insurance. Private hospitals offer 3D tomosynthesis (more sensitive for dense tissue) at RM350-550, but 2D MyMammo remains very effective for standard screening. Women with very dense tissue or strong family history can use both: routine MyMammo 2D + private 3D once every 4-5 years if cost allows.
