Osteoporosis in menopause
Osteoporosis is a disease where bone mineral density becomes low and bones become fragile, increasing fracture risk. Postmenopausal women are at high risk due to estrogen loss - can lose 2% bone mass yearly in the first 10 years after menopause. Ministry of Health Malaysia Osteoporosis CPG 2022 recommends bone density scan screening at age 65+, or earlier with risk factors. Prevention: calcium 1000mg/day, D3 800-1000 IU/day, weight-bearing exercise.
